Hall Pass Movie Review

Last night I sat down and watched Hall Pass with my better half on the Xbox Live Video on Demand service which is becoming my new favorite way to rent movies . I was expecting very little since the last couple of movies I watched with Christina Applegate as a headliner were less than impressive but I gave it a shot because the cast overall was top notch including the likes of Jenna Fischer ( dear me is she hot but dont tell anyone I dont want to get in trouble ) , Owen Wilson and the always hilarious Jason Sudeikis.

Owen Wilson stars as a married man whose spouse (Jenna Fischer) grants him the right — for just one week — to pursue as many extramarital affairs as he can. His best buddy (Jason Sudeikis) receives an identical “hall pass” from his wife, and off the guys go. The hubbies soon discover, however, that picking up girls isn’t as easy as they recall, while their better halves embark on their own erotic adventures. Bobby and Peter Farrelly direct.

As of late I have watched a lot of comedies hoping for some sort of magic and been horribly disappointed. In the case of Going The Distance which is the Applegate movie I was talking about they put all the jokes in the trailer making the movie a complete and utter waste of time. I had hoped Due Date which starred Robert Downey Jr and Hangover 2 champion Zach Galifanikis would deliver, it stunk. I even hoped that The Dilemna would crack me up and yep you guessed it, another yawner.

Summed up it seems every new movie I have seen that is supposed to crack me up has been a complete waste of time so my hopes were pretty low for Hall Pass and perhaps that is why this movie had me literally in tears laughing and chuckling pretty much throughout. Hall Pass is a movie that has a great cast with an incredible on screen dynamic and when combined with some really good direction and writing it makes it a completely worthwhile experience.

You won’t laugh from open to end like you might have with The Hangover but you will most certainly find yourself choking on your beverage as zingers come flying out of left field and have you in a laughing fit.

The humour is at times low brow and at other times intelligent and rewarding which is what makes Hall Pass a fun movie. It is not a Will Ferrell movie where its all about tit and ass and fart jokes but it certainly has its moments of dirty humour but its polished in such a fashion that no matter how gross ( and yes it gets gross at times ) I think you will still have a hard time laughing I know that my lovely lady friend did.

"The Office" Airs Steve Carell's Second-to-Last Episode, Which ...

The tears in the eyes of the actors on "The Office" last night didn't seem faked.

Steve Carell 's second-to-last-episode concluded with a moment that any "Office" fan would recognize as a dream come true for Michael Scott:

His employees serenaded him with a take on "Rent" theme "Seasons of Love" (with Will Ferrell , who plays interim manager Deangelo Vickers, on backup vocals).

The typically unsentimental "Office" writers have brought out their schmaltzy tendencies -- and they're working. If last night's show was that touching, we're going to need tissues for next week's final Carell farewell.

But after our melancholy cleared, we wondered: will the transition to a Carell-free show be as smooth as everyone has maintained?

"The Office" has, arguably, the most talented and most disciplined writing and producing staff on television -- and heretofore, we've just sort of trusted that they'll figure it out.

But it suddenly seems clear how challenging it's going to be.

It's not just about figuring out what to do with traditions Carell's character invented, like last night's Dundie Awards -- after all, though they're "a tradition," it was only the second episode about them ever.

It's about figuring out how to drive storylines, so many of which were born out of Michael Scott's hairbrained methods on running an office, when those hairbrained methods have been scrubbed away.

We think Michael Scott himself put it best -- but we won't spoil the last moments of the clip for you.
