Family questions suicide ruling
The family of an inmate who died at East Mississippi Correctional Facility in Lauderdale County is questioning a finding that Sammy Robinson committed suicide.
The Clarion-Ledger reports Robinson's family has sent an intent-to-sue letter to the state Department of Corrections and the GEO Group of Boca Raton, Fla., which operates the prison. Family attorney Warren Martin Jr. says a second autopsy found several abrasions and contusions all over Robinson's body.
Robinson was found hanging in his cell at the prison Feb. 19. Officials say Robinson was alone in his cell when he was discovered by guards.
Robinson was convicted of murder in 2004 and was serving a life sentence from Hinds County.
