The holiday weekend kicks off with a First Friday Gallery Hop celebration from 6 to 9 p.m. (and beyond) today around Railroad Square Art Park, off Railroad Avenue near the entrance of the FAMU campus. There will be art exhibits in galleries around the park as well as live music by The Popheads, The Human Ascension, singer Jim Crozier and a variety of DJs. 621 Gallery is throwing a closing party for its exhibit "Barks and Squeals." It's all free to see. The Tallahassee Art Showcase Trolleys will not be making the rounds for this First Friday, but will be back on track July 8 for "First Friday Once Removed."

Other free First Friday activities include a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. at Quincie's Art Jewelry/Art of the Find, 1323-1325 Thomasville Road, and a chance to peek at Brent Scowden's art, listen to music by Brett Richter and have a cocktail from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cypress Restaurant, 320 E. Tennessee St. Two Moon Trees, 439-A W. Gaines St., hosts a reception from 7:30 till 10:30 p.m. featuring artist Sarah Bush, with author Kim MacQueen reading at 8 p.m., followed by music from Oh! Geography and Pat Puckett.
