Greg Laurie says Howard Stern needs Jesus Christ (videos)

Popular evangelist and Pastor Greg Laurie of Harvest Crusade Ministries announced that Howard Stern needs a relationship with Jesus Christ if he wants to find true happiness.  The remarks were made during a weekend crusade held as the Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California from August 12-August 14, 2011.  Howard Stern recently joined Casey Anthony and Nadya Suleman (Octomom) and O.J. Simpson on a recent list of America’s Most Hated celebrities.  The poll was issued by E-Poll’s E-Source Celebrity.

The Christian Post writes that Laurie learned of Stern’s unhappiness through an interview where Stern was asked, “you control your life now, you are on radio, on TV, you have a beautiful wife, you have succeeded at all of your goals, and you’re paid better than almost anyone…and yet you are not happy.  What would it take to make you happy?”

Stern went on to address that though he has money, a wife and success he wrestles with deep anger.  During Laurie’s address he quoted Howard Stern by answering, “I don’t know; it’s so complicated. I have a lot of anger inside of me. Once in a while I can douse it with some water… but it never goes away. I don’t know how to get rid of it. I just walk around angry. It’s a burden. That’s why I am trying to find balance… That would be beautiful, but I don’t know what it would take.

Speaking in front of a crowd that numbered in the tens of thousands, Greg Laurie spoke directly to Stern.

“Howard Stern, I know what it would take…”  He continued, “You need a relationship with Jesus Christ.  That’s the answer.”

Laurie also shared his own person struggle with anger and how his walk with God has changed him.

“I used to be an angry young man, until I came into this relationship with God.”

The Trouble With Christian Labels

"As I understand it," I began, "what 'evangelical' really means is that a person believes in Jesus Christ, has a personal relationship with him and because of that relationship feels compelled to share their experience of God's love with other people.

What Are Leaders Made Of? - Global Action

The most central and important characteristic of a young leader is a strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Servant leaders usually lead out of a deep security in Him. Authoritarian leaders, on the other hand, are usually very insecure. There are other reasons why certain leaders become authoritative, even abusive, but insecurity is one of the main ones, especially in the church. When a task that represents your vision is successfully accomplished by someone else, are you as happy about it as when it is accomplished by you? Are you as pleased about the church down the road winning people to Christ as you are when your own church does this? When the other organization completes a similar project to yours faster and/or better, do you feel jealousy or gratitude? There are times I have been in both those places. The servant leader will articulate a vision that serves the interests and the mission of the whole organization. If those kinds of leaders truly view themselves as basically equal with their followers, they will lead in a non-self-aggressive manner. They will actively empower and develop their people. On the other hand, the authoritarian, and at times, abusive leaders, are often domineering and narcissistic. They have high needs for power, driven in part by their own personal lack of peace and security in Christ. They tend to promote goals that reflect their own self-interests. They may even play on their followers’ needs as a means to achieve their own interests. They will largely disregard the feelings of others, and, at times, demand unquestioning obedience and dependence in their followers.
