Five 'Hippie' rockers set to storm the Keswick stage
If you were considered a “hippie” in your former days, you’ll be delighted to know that five of your contemporaries will be back in town, guitars in hand and their freak flags flying. It’s going to be a Baby Boomer’s dream when these five talented musical artists and Grammy winners appear on the same stage for a one-night concert stop at the Keswick. It’s part of their sixth annual, 21-city coast-to-coast tour of “Hippie Fest: A Concert for Peace and Love,” which began earlier this month in California. Another headliner is Mark Farner (formerly lead singer/guitarist of Grand Funk Railroad), whose band made a splash in 1970, topping all other American bands in album sales. Songs like “We’re an American Band,” (No. 1 on the Billboard Charts in 1973); “Walk Like a Man” and “Some Kind of Wonderful” were among the many recordings that kept them at the forefront of the rock scene. Joining the stage alongside Farner and Mason is Felix Cavaliere of Rascals fame. The group has been named “the first rock band in the world” and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Originally called the Young Rascals, Cavaliere and his band mates made hits that are now staple songs on American radio. Three of their songs made it to No. 1: “Good Lovin’,” “Groovin’,” and “People Got to Be Free.” The Hall of Famer has been going strong in his career, most recently in New York, where he reconvened with his old band mates for a Rascals reunion benefit tour. Rounding up the band crew is rock legend Rick Derringer, whose success began at 17 when he was a member of the McCoys. Their hit song “Hang on Sloopy” was a No. 1 hit in 1965 and went on to become a classic. Years later, his legendary and timeless hit “Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo” is still heard on American radio. It’s a song for a new generation as it is featured in the video game “Guitar Hero.” Derringer’s mega hit is on the concert playlist. If you listen closely, you’ll hear the lyrics tweaked — ever so slightly. There’s a new power amplifying his music and giving life to its lyrics. Derringer is reaching a whole new audience for Christianity, and he’s very popular around the world where he performs to sold-out crowds in Japan and Germany.Hit Songs Of The 60 S - News
