Wilkerson, prosecutors alleged, purchased a 2009 Mercedes Benz sedan from Ft. Washington Mercedes Benz on Sept. 18, 2009, for which he wrote a check for $111,000. Wilkerson, 45, most recently of North Savanna Drive, East Coventry, then drove off with the car after writing that check on a bank account that had been closed eight months prior on Jan. 16, authorities alleged. Wilkerson, who previously served prison time for a fraudulent financial scheme during the construction of his planned $1.7 million luxury home in Berks, faces a possible maximum sentence of 3 ½-to-seven years in prison if he's convicted of the bad check charge. Another charge of theft by deception previously was withdrawn against Wilkerson, who remains in the county jail in lieu of bail pending the outcome of his trial. On Sept. 28, Wilkerson returned the vehicle to the Whitemarsh dealership and officials offered him several options to finance the car or to reimburse the dealership for the time he had the vehicle, court papers alleged. But Wilkerson allegedly "put the keys down on the table and left without paying for it or reimbursing having it," Cotter alleged. In September 2002, Wilkerson, then 36, was sentenced in Berks County Court to three-to-14-years in state prison after he pleaded guilty to theft- and fraud-related charges in connection with duping contractors who performed work on his planned mansion on Red Corner Road in Union Township out of thousands of dollars. Wilkerson, according to state corrections officials, was paroled after serving his minimum sentence on Sept. 26, 2005. He was on parole at the time of his most recent arrest.
