Fashion On Its Playgrounds c.1928 « Catwalk Threads Vintage

There were two distinct styles of ladies fashions during the Twenties.  Dresses in this era changed quite radically from what was common just a decade before.  The early part of the Twenties progressed quite slowly as many were reluctant to adopt new styles.  However, by 1925, hemlines were knee-length and the public began to embrace styles that were associated with the ‘Roaring Twenties’. Waist lines were low and hemlines quite flouncy and uneven.

Here’s an example of what styles were around towards the end of that decade. These designs were available to make in the form of “KUT-EEZI” patterns, on sale at most Drapers or they could be obtained direct and “post free”, price 1/- and 1/6 each from “Woman’s Pictorial” Kut-Eezi Pattern Depot, 291a, Oxford Street, London, W.1. ) is a delightful little dress of flowered voile.  Extremely dainty, but it is the gossamer fichu, swaying on the front of the bodice, which gives the winning point.  And I have not finished yet – even with coats the neckline makes the mode, and since scarf collars are both exceedingly smart and entirely becoming this attractive coat of silk morocain ( below centre ), in some attractive artificial silk like “Muraline.”  By the way, I wish there were any other word but “artificial” to describe the really lovely dull suède-like surface of this delightful washing silk. This jumper suit has a dainty little collar and cuffs of white organdi, and the “Muraline” might be soft green.
