Dallas team launches Munzee scavenger hunt game for iPhone/Android users

Dallas developers Aaron Benzick, Chris Pick, Scott Foster and Josh Terkelsen have created a game called Munzee , what they call a "21st century scavenger hunt," where you use your iPhone or Android smartphone to find and scan QR codes scattered around the Dallas area.

You can see general locations of each munzee on this map , and then you have to hunt in that area to find the code and scan it with your phone.

You get points and level up for finding munzees, as well as points for for creating and deploying your own munzees.

It's geochaching taken to its most high-tech limits.

The app is free and it sounds like the goal is to make this something of a user-generated gameplay experience, with players creating their own munzees in different cities.

UPDATE: One of the developers, Aaron Benzick, tells me that eventually, area businesses will have the opportunity to hide munzees in their stores, restaurants, etc. to attract potential customers. It sounds like players with higher scores will also at some point be eligible for various rewards or bonuses as they level up.
