annual fireworks display: is Sunday, July 3, at the South Mill Pond, located across from Portsmouth City Hall. The fireworks display begins at 9:15 p.m. The rain date is Tuesday, July 5. City Ordinance prohibits personal fireworks, including Class C sparklers. Because of the fireworks display, the Dog Park will be closed from 6 a.m. Sunday until 10 a.m. Monday. Dogs are never allowed at Leary and Central Fields, or the South Playground. The tennis and basketball courts, playground and baseball areas will be closed all day Sunday. Vehicles will be towed from the playground lot on Junkins Avenue at 10 a.m. Sunday and from Parrott Avenue between Richards Avenue and Junkins at noon. Because of the fireworks, the High-Hanover Parking Garage will charge a flat $3 fee from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 3. There will be no parking on 23 streets near the South Playground (except for residents of those streets): Parrott Avenue, Junkins Avenue, Mt. Vernon Street, Pleasant Street, South Street from Miller to Marcy, Richmond Street, Rogers Street, Edward Street, Livermore Street, Wentworth Street, Melcher Street, Whidden Street, Franklin Street, Pickering Street, Hunking Street, Gardner Street, Gates Street, Howard Street, Elwyn Avenue, Sherburne Avenue, Rockland Street, Kent Street, and Richards Avenue. Strawbery Banke Museum: rings with an event and fun-filled family commemoration of the nation's 235th birthday on Monday, July 4. The 10th annual An American Celebration! event at the Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. includes Revolutionary War re-enactors, a visit from Abe Lincoln, an insider's view of the shipyard where the new Gundalow is being built and nearly every kid's activity imaginable. An American Celebration is the focal point of Independence Day celebrations on the seacoast and is one of Strawbery Banke Museum's signature events, drawing thousands of visitors who mix comfortably across the 10-acre campus. Admission to An American Celebration is free to children under 17 thanks to sponsorship from BAE Systems. As a member of the Blue Star Museums program, Strawbery Banke Museum admits active duty military and their families free at all times. Museum members are also admitted free of charge. Adult tickets are $15 and available in advance at www.strawberybanke.org or by calling 433-1107.

Runners on your mark, get set, go! Before the parade starts runners can run in the one mile Clawson Firecracker race. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place men and women will receive monetary prizes. Think you have what it takes to beat the record – score a big $1000.
The race will begin at the Clawson Shopping Center.
You may pick up entry forms at Clawson City Hall.
Bring a picnic basket and come out to the Lincoln Hills Golf Course tonight to see the Birmingham Fireworks Display.
Bring your chairs and blankets to sit back and watch the show in the sky.
Parking is available at Seaholm High School. Gates open at 7:30 p.m., and at approximately 10 p.m. the fireworks show will start.
No alcoholic beverages or sparklers are permitted.
If it rains, the show will be held on Monday, July 5.
