Great Heron Lake Get Together and Okabena Independence Day events

The Great Heron Lake Get Together is set for July third, with a variety of activities scheduled. The annual pork chop and riblet supper will be served. This year, the Heron Lake Ambulance and Fire Department are sponsoring the event formerly sponsored by the Heron Lake Pork Producers. Serving begins at 5:00 p.m. at the Heron Lake Community Center. Strawberries and ice cream, sponsored by the Community Club, will be the dessert. Also beginning at 5:00 p.m. is a performance by Chad Elliot. Sponsored by the Heron Lake Community Club, Elliott is traveling through southwestern Minnesota and will perform a variety of roots, blues and folk music, mainly composed by himself. Elliott is an Americana singer and songwriter, which means he performs original material. He does perform a few covers, but the majority of his award-winning music is a blend of roots, blues and folk music composed by Elliott. The Heron Lake Day Care Center will be having their annual raffle fundraiser. A wide variety of prizes are available. The Lucky Duck Race is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. near the Heron Lake City Park. Tickets for this are available at City Hall, Commercial Bank of Minnesota, P & J’s Mini Mart and the Tri County News. Cash prizes will be awarded. The Great Heron Lake Get Together will culminate with the annual Young Men’s Club street dance. Beginning at 8:30 p.m., the dance and beer garden will be on Main Street. Make plans now to enjoy the third of July in Heron Lake, followed by the Fourth of July celebration in Okabena. Events at Okabena begin at noon with the Kiddie Pedal Pull. At 2:15 is the Kiddie Parade, followed by the Independence Parade at 2:30. A Patriotic Program will be held at 4:00 at the Legion. The antique tractor display will be held near Main Street, and there will be a beer garden and entertainment at OMLS. An ice cream social will be at St John's Park after parade until gone. At 5:00, it’s the slowest tractor contest on Main Street. Doors open for Bingo at Legion at 5:30, and a variety show is at the school gym. Bingo at the Legion starts at 6:30 and "Kraft Variety" in the Park will start at 7:00. At approximately 10:00 will be the fireworks (after sundown). Raffle drawings to follow. There will be ball games, concessions, games for the whole family and kiddie rides throughout the day. Come and join us in Okabena on the 4th.

Citizens Tri-County Bank to Sell Homes, Lots, Commercial ...

A variety of properties in both Tennessee and Georgia -- including homes, home sites, commercial properties and land -- will sell to the highest bidder on Saturday, March 19. Many will sell at absolute auction, meaning they will go to the highest bidder, regardless of price.

The properties are being sold by Citizens Tri-County Bank, which will host the auction at its Dunlap, Tenn., branch and will offer financing on many available properties. They are located in Bledsoe, Grundy, Hamilton, Marion, and Sequatchie Counties, Tennessee, as well as in Dade and Walker Counties, Georgia.

The 17 properties should appeal to a wide variety of bidders, according to John Dixon, president of John Dixon & Associates , the auction company marketing the properties and conducting the auction.

"This is a diverse group of properties that stretch across two states and could represent some excellent opportunities for individuals, businesses, or developers," Dixon said. "All of these properties have been foreclosed on, so what this ultimately means is that a smart buyer or investor can obtain a commercial property, a home, or some undeveloped mountain or recreational land at a price that is likely to be below the appraised value."
