Asus Eee PC 1215B

Not everyone can be a brilliant stand-out in the crowded netbook category, but even a plain package with the right parts inside can still be a smart purchase. Though it isn't winning any awards for all-day battery-life or outstanding performance, the Asus Eee PC 1215B ($450 street) is a competent netbook with some high-end features, like USB 3.0, HDMI with 1080p output, and an AMD E-350 processor. It's a collection of features that has the 1215B rubbing elbows with the best in the netbook category.

Design
Like other variations of the Eee PC 1215 model, the 1215B has a plastic chassis with a tapered clamshell design. Thickest at the hinge, the Eee PC 1215B measures 1.5 by 11.7 by 8 inches (HWD). The lid and palm rest are black with a silky matte-plastic finish, but high-gloss finishes are also available in black, red, and silver. The underside of the 1215B has a patterned texture that provides slightly better grip while carrying. Whether you carry it by hand, in a purse, or a backpack, you'll find that at 3.3-pounds this netbook is fairly light, lighter than the 3.5-pound Editors' Choice HP Pavilion dm1z ($449 direct, 4.5 stars), but heavier than the 10-inch, 2.65-pound Acer Aspire One D260-1270 ($399.99 direct, 4 stars).

The screen is a wide 12-inch, 1,366-by-768 resolution display, a full two inches larger than the 10-inch screen found on the Acer D260-1270. With that resolution, you can enjoy streaming video at 720p, in addition to your regular Web browsing and document creation. Plus, the screen's matte finish lets you work without worrying about lights casting glare on the screen.

The 1215B has a chiclet-style keyboard, and the square, matte-finish keys offer a reasonably comfortable typing experience even though the keyboard is 96% of full size, making it feel a bit crowded. This problem is common on netbooks, which generally offer smaller keyboards, but larger netbooks, like the 11-inch Sony VAIO VPC-YB15KX/S ($599.99 list, 4 stars) still manage to squeeze in a full-sized version. Regardless, if you're used to typing on the slightly smaller keyboards found on other netbooks you'll be right at home, but if you're coming off a full sized one, the 1215B's will take some getting used to.

The touchpad on the 1215B is larger than average for a netbook, where touchpads smaller than business cards are common. With the same silky surface as the rest of the palm rest, and two-fingered gesture controls like scrolling, the touchpad was almost flawless. Unfortunately, the button bar used for the mouse buttons is stiff, and I would have preferred separate right and left buttons.

I got a acer ten.one aspire one netbook…laptop computer… from my cousin and i have tryed numerous wi-fi world wide web routers and experimented with and tried using to hook them up but i cant get it t work…really im making an attempt to hook it up to my primary personal computer…desktop… and i cant seem to get it…i nedd total methods, what variety of router to get, and pleae make the methods easy plenty of for a 14 12 months previous. Do you have a modem? The modem is what you will hook the router up to to get the world wide web, not to the desktop alone.

So the modem hooks up to the wall, and the modem is also linked to your desktop so the desktop will get a wired connection, then your router will be connected to the modem so your laptop can get on the net. Which is how mine is set up anyway.
